What we do...
Main
Meetings
·
At these meetings there is a time of worship, a Bible-based talk from
an outside speaker and usually a time of prayer in groups. This is a
time of corporate fellowship together and is an important part of fulfilling
our aim of maturing in our Christian faith.
· This meeting is mainly designed for Christians but everyone
is welcome to join us for these.
· We currently meet at 7pm at St. Luke’s Church every week.
Please check the programme for any changes.
Prayer
Meetings
·
These are an important part of the work of the CU. For more info on
these please see the section on ‘prayer’
Evangelistic
Events
·
Evangelism is a major part of what we do as a CU.
· As the main aim of the CU is to “make Christ known”,
we seek to tell people the good news of the gospel.
Examples of this are:
- Initiating a conversation about Christianity and sharing our faith
with an aid of a questionnaire on campus.
- Having social events with an evangelistic talk.
- ‘Jazz and curry’ evenings with a ‘Grill a Christian’
panel or an evangelistic talk.
- Other events organised during the year.
· All these events have an aim of gearing us up for the mission
week from 18th – 25th February 2006 when the focus throughout
the week will be spreading the good news of Jesus through various events,
with a hope that some may believe and be saved! We have an evangelist
Mike Mellor to assist us and to give some gospel talks during the week.
· Please check the website for updates throughout the year of
evangelistic events that will take place.
· We also have various social events taking place through the
year, designed to create a friendly environment for the CU to enjoy
fun fellowship together and also friends from outside the CU to come
along to and to get to know one another better. These include BBQs,
games on the common, ice-skating and the infamous playzone!
Carol
Service
·
As a special once-a-year event, this is a great opportunity for people
to come to hear about the birth of Jesus and why he came into this world.
Mike Mellor will give the talk this year. There will also be some carols,
a testimony and some mince pies!
· The Carol Service will be held on Thursday 8th December
2005, and everyone is welcome!
Hall
Groups
·
These are regular times of fellowship in halls. Please see the section
on hall groups for more information.
Houseparty
·
Every year we have a weekend away together to have good fellowship with
one another in learning from God’s Word, to get to know each other
better and have fun!
· This year the house party is from 18th to 20th November at
Westbrook youth conference centre on the Isle of Wight. Our speaker
is Dave Fenton and the theme is ‘Unity in Christ’ from Ephesians.
